Preparing Your Child For Their First Dental Visit
Do you have a child or young person in your life who is due for their first dental visit? At Muse Dental Studio, we welcome children in the office so we can ensure they are practicing good dental hygiene and correct any dental issues while they are still young. You might be surprised to learn that, around their first birthday, your child is ready to visit the dentist for the first time. Even if your child is older than one and still has not had their first visit, that is no problem. Now is the perfect time to schedule their first visit!
Helpful Tips Before the First Visit
We want to share some helpful tips to ensure the young child in your life has a pleasant first experience at the dentist. We want to help them understand that our office is a safe and comfortable place.
Introduce the Dentist
Be sure that your child understands what a dentist is and why it’s important that they visit the dentist twice a year. To help them feel more comfortable before their visit, be sure to visit our website and show them some of the pictures we have posted. They can virtually meet our team and see some photos of the office. We also recommend reading some children’s books about the dentist and watching some of the many cartoons available. There is a good chance your child will find a show or book with one of their favorite characters.
Choose An Ideal Time of Day
We want your child to be in good spirits when they visit the office. We would highly recommend avoiding nap time or mealtime and not immediately after a long day at daycare or school. You know your child’s schedule, and we will work with you to pick an ideal time for your appointment.
Remain Positive
Even if you have anxiety when visiting our office, we suggest keeping your feelings to yourself. It is best to speak about our office in a positive way to help avoid added fears. It is important that our office be portrayed as a safe space and for children to know that the dentist is a helpful adult.
We hope these tips help you with your child or loved one’s first dentist appointment. If you are in Houston, TX or the surrounding area and you or a loved one is due for a routine examination, please call our office to schedule an appointment today. We can’t wait to see you and your young loved one soon!
