The best way to do this is with preventative dental care. Preventative dentistry helps patients avoid complications with their oral health, such as decay and gum disease. Building good dental health practices creates a sound foundation to ensure your mouth remains healthy. Read on to learn more about the importance of preventative dental care and how it can affect your oral health.
What is Preventative Care?
Preventative dental care is necessary to decrease your chance of experiencing dental issues now and in the future. The best way to do this is by visiting our office for a routine hygiene examination and cleaning every four to six months. In addition to visiting our office for a routine hygiene examination, it is equally important to maintain your oral hygiene routine between visits. Since you see us so infrequently during the year, it is particularly important that you brush your teeth for two minutes twice daily and floss every day.
Use Preventative Measures
Aside from visiting our office for oral hygiene examinations and being sure you remain diligent with brushing and flossing your teeth, there are other things you can do to help prevent problems with your oral health. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with bruxism, which is the act of clenching and grinding your teeth, we encourage you to use a nightguard to protect your teeth. Mouth protection is also important if you or your children play contact sports. A simple accident can cause great problems with your oral health. We can also apply a fluoride treatment that gives extra cavity protection to your teeth.
We want to help you and your family achieve excellent oral health for many years. If you or a loved one needs a routine hygiene examination or recommended treatment, be sure to contact our office in Houston, TX, to schedule an appointment. We hope to see you soon!
